The first and only media arts organization in Richmond, Canada, Cinevolution has been dedicated to making experimental film and media art accessible to all from the start, with a particular focus on connecting immigrants and marginalized communities to mainstream society through participatory media art festivals and events that are international in scope. Over the past decade, Cinevolution has been a leading voice for newcomer communities while promoting independent art practice, interdisciplinary art forms and critical discourse on the complexities of cultural encounters and diasporic identities. Today, Cinevolutionโ€™s initial three-women team has grown to include a dynamic group of artists and filmmakers, activists and community organizers.

Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the core team as the Digital Content Coordinator, Annisa was involved in creating a variety of digital content (e.g. website text, social media images and videos, etc). Annisa was also engaged in two major digital initiatives: the development and implementation of two digital roundtables events on intersectional accessibility in the arts, and a redesign of Cinevolutionโ€™s organizational website based on principles of digital accessibility. What would you do if your only child died mysteriously in another country and was buried sight unseen? The World is Bright is an award-winning documentary film of an elderly Chinese coupleโ€™s epic 10-year journey searching for the truth behind their sonโ€™s death in Canada. What starts as a murder mystery becomes something else entirely. The film is a rare revelation of immigration, mental health and a Kafkaesque state bureaucracy at the heart of global migration.

Annisa is a part of the filmโ€™s Impact Campaign team. As the Digital Marketing Manager, her job includes digital content creating; website and social media managing; and coordinating creative projects of the campaign. Read more about The World is Bright here.

Inside Green is a Vancouver-based project that connects people through the stewardship and gifting of houseplants, thus greening the city from inside spaces out. Participants โ€“ or, Stewards, as we call them โ€“ can use the Inside Green Plant Picker to identify what they want most in a house plant: air-cleaning qualities, a plant that blooms, interesting plant structure, and colourful foliage.

Inside Green provides caregiving tips and โ€˜how toโ€™ material when it comes time to propagate their plant, helps Stewards create the next generation of plants they can gift to others, thus creating new Stewards who will add their plants to the site, and so on and so forth โ€“ contributing to a map that shows the genealogy of plants spreading across the city!

Annisa joined the project as Social Media Manager, launched a campaign that consisted of digital storytelling and pop-up events to spotlight Inside Greenโ€™s website launch. Read more about Inside Green here.

Annisa co-manages this rental property with her husband, Daniel - remotely, most of the time. She does staff management, bookkeeping, supervises maintenance, designs and manages the website. Read more about Rumah Laplapan here.
